Description

Sedum dasyphyllum ‘Major’ is a succulent plant belonging to the Sedum family. It is a cultivated variant of Sedum dasyphyllum, known for its distinctive spiral leaf arrangement. The miniature variety, Helix Star Beauty, features elongated oval leaves measuring approximately 2mm wide and 4-6mm long. The leaves are predominantly green, occasionally turning slightly yellow with age. The stems tend to grow slightly upright initially but will trail or hang down as they mature, especially when grown outside of containers.

They have vigorous growth habits and thrive when planted in clusters during the spring and autumn seasons. They can tolerate partial or full sunlight, even thriving in open environments. Their leaves tend to become plump, round, and compact, showing a distinct spiral pattern, thanks to their fine root systems and a well-balanced mix of peat and coconut coir in the soil. The soil should ideally have a finer granular texture, ranging from 1-3mm in size. Watering should be done thoroughly when the soil in the pot is semi-dry or nearing dryness during the growing season. In the summer, dense growth requires adequate shading and ventilation to prevent the soil in the pot from becoming excessively damp and hot, which could lead to rotting of stems and leaves near the ground. Prolonged dryness in the pot soil can accelerate leaf consumption and result in bare stems, so consider soaking the pot during watering sessions.
